Materials: Sewing machine Thread Scissors Pinking shears Chalk Pins 2 yds. each of silk and velvet 4 tassels - Cut a piece 18" wide by 72" long from each fabric.
- Pin the right sides together.
- Draw a concave curve at each end of the strip. The center of the curve should be at 2-1/2" in from the outside edge. Baste or pin inside the curve and cut away the excess.
- Sew around the perimeter of the wrap, leaving 12" open on one side.
- Turn inside out.
- Stitch by machine or hand to close the opening.
- Sew the tassels on each corner (figure A).
- Press and wear.
Evening Bag (Web Exclusive) Materials: Sewing machine Thread Scissors Pinking shears Chalk Pins Leftover silk and velvet from wrap 36" of cord 1 tassel Firm interfacing Large snap - Cut one piece 6-1/2" x 18" of each fabric and interfacing.
- Place silk wrong side down, top with velvet right side down (velvet and silk have right sides together), and place interfacing on top. Pin together.
- Draw the point on the interfacing with chalk: from the center of one end to a point 4" from the end on each side.
- Sew the bottom and the two sides of the top only. Trim away excess fabric. Turn inside out so that the silk is on the bottom (right side out) and the velvet is on the top. The interfacing will now be sandwiched between them.
- Fold the flat bottom up at 7" so that it come very slightly above the angle of the point.
- Sew the two side seams together and bind or zigzag over the raw edges.
- Turn right side (velvet) out.
- Hand-sew the cord for the strap, a snap closure and the tassel on the point.
