Mike Assile, creative director for Beacon Adhesives, uses a liquid fusible adhesive to add faux suede accents to the collar and cuffs of a denim jacket. It's a trendy look for both guys and gals, and once you know how, you can even add accents to pocket flaps or belts.

    Materials:

    1/8 yard Ultra Suede®
    Denim jacket
    Liqui Fuse® liquid fusible webbing
    Iron
    Pressing cloth

    1. Be sure to wash the jacket before you begin, to remove any fabric sizing that may interfere with the liquid fusible webbing.

    2. Cut a piece of Ultra Suede about 2" longer and 2" wider than the collar of the jacket. This project calls for Ultra Suede because it's a little less expensive than real suede, is washable and tolerates the heat of an iron better.

    3. Place the collar flat on the ironing board, right side up. Apply Liqui Fuse to all the edges of the collar and in "squiggles" to the remainder of the collar. It isn't necessary to completely coat the collar with liquid fusible web (figure A).

    4. Place the Ultra Suede strip right side up atop the Liqui Fuse, cover with a press cloth, and place a dry iron set at high heat on top of the press cloth. Leave the iron in one place--don't move it back and forth. Heat one section for 45 seconds, move the press cloth and iron to another section, and repeat until the Ultra Suede piece has been fused to the collar (figure B).

    5. Cut away excess Ultra Suede with scissors, trimming close to the collar edges (figure C).

    6. Decide whether you prefer the Ultra Suede embellishment on the inside or outside of the cuff. Measure the width and length of the cuff with a measuring tape. Cut two pieces of Ultra Suede a little longer and wider than the measurement. The excess will be trimmed off later. Follow steps 4 and 5 to fuse the Ultra Suede to the cuffs.

    7. If you need to go over a buttonhole, apply Liqui Fuse around it, and fuse the Ultra Suede onto the cuff. After the fabric is dry and cool, use a craft knife to slit the Ultra Suede through the center
