Materials: Craft sticks or tongue depressors Straws Safety glasses Masking tape Pencil Hot glue Drill and bits Scrap wood Scissors Colored markers - Tape the tongue depressor onto a piece of scrap wood.
- Drill a hole in the center of a tongue depressor about 3/8" wide (figure A).
- Insert a straw in the hole.
- Hot-glue the straw in place and wrap it with masking tape for added strength (figure B).
- Decorate the depressor with colored markers.
Note: To fly the twirlygig, hold the straw between the palms of your hand. Push one hand forward and pull the other hand back. Throw the twirlygig up as you spin. Tips: - Try to gently twist the blades in opposite directions so that you will get more lift when you spin your twirlygig.
- Safety tip: Always be careful when using tools -- always have an adult present.
