Smith readies this rocket for its inaugural launch.

Jeff Smith and Angela Haick are adult siblings who have persuaded their entire family to participate in their backyard rocket-building sessions. Smith says kids 8 and older can begin in simply rocketry for about $25. In fact, both Smith and Haick have been building their own rockets since they were children.

There are rules and regulations that govern rocketry, and Smith advises hobbyists to research the rules as well as to maintain good relationships with neighbors.
