  • Holiday Scarf
  • Knit this warm and fuzzy scarf for the holidays.
    From "Special Presentation"
    episode DHGN-S

    PHOTO
Knitty Gritty’s knitting expert Vickie Howell whips out a scarf for Scrapbooking’s Sandi Genovese. By using large needles she can up the gauge of the scarf so it goes together in approximately four hours. Greens and blues are mixed together in alternating color groups and long fringe finishes off the warm and fuzzy scarf.

    Materials:

8 to 12 balls of assorted weights and types of yarn in 2 different color palettes
    - Crystal Palace - Stardust Fizz, Fjord & Fling
    - SWTC- Karoke & Vickie Howell Collection’s LOVE
    - Patons- Allure
    size US 35 needles
    crochet hook
    tapestry needle

Gauge: Approx. 1-1/4 sts per inch in stockinette using 3 to 4 strands of yarn held together

Finished Size: Approx. 8" x 66" (without fringe)

Note: This scarf is meant to be very bohemian-looking so have fun with mixing your yarns. It’s made up of six super-wide stripe blocks in two different color ways. Experiment with what yarns can be stranded together to provide the gauge needed. Keep in mind though; it doesn’t have to be perfect! For pattern writing purposes I’ll refer to the two color ways as Color 1 and Color 2. It might be helpful to separate the yarns into two piles representing each color so you can grab a few from the appropriate pile to create each stripe block.

    Color 1
Using 2-4 yarns (number will depend on weights of individual yarns) from Color 1, CO 15 sts.
    Rows: 1-4: Knit (garter stitch).
Rows: 5-8: Work in stockinette stitch (knit all right side rows, purl all wrong side rows)
    Rows: 9-12: Knit.
Rows: 12-16: Work in stockinette stitch.

    Color 2
Switch to 2-4 yarns from Color 2.
    Rows: 17-20: Knit.
Rows: 21-24: Work in stockinette stitch.
    Rows: 25-28: Knit.
Rows: 29-32: Work in stockinette stitch.

Continue as established: working four rows of garter stitch, four rows of stockinette stitch, four rows of garter stitch and four rows of stockinette stitch, in each color way until you have six stripe blocks.

Knit 4 more rows. Bind off.

    Finishing:
Weave in ends using a tapestry needle.

    Tassels:
Choose three yarns from Colors 1 and 2 so that you have a total of six strands for your tassels. Holding strands together cut 22 26-inch pieces. Fold pieces in half and using large crochet hook, tie 11 tassels on evenly across each scarf edge.
