    1. Create the brown felt panels for the gingerbread house by trimming felt appliqués using templates provided or design your own templates.

      1. Take two standard pieces of 9" x 12" craft felt and trim the 9-inch dimension down to 7-inches.
      2. Cut out four white felt squares for the windows. There are two windows for each side of the house (figure A).
      3. Cut out shutters with the template using pinking shears. Cut shutter panels in half so that you have a total of eight shutter panels.
      4. Sew or glue a small piece of Velcro on each applique back. This will allow the appliqué to stick to the felt fabric when decorating (figure B).
      5. Decorate the outside of appliqué with additional swatches of felt. Fill in blank areas with puff paint in stripes, dots etc. Set aside and allow it to dry overnight.

    2. Apply appliqués starting with door and windows:

      1. Sew hearts onto windows using a straight-line stitch down the center.
      2. Sew shutters and windows onto the side panel (figure C).

    3. Complete the look with full "candy" décor:

      1. Hand-sew the peppermints to the brown felt wall panel.
      2. Cut candy cane twist to fit the top and bottom window borders and hand sew to the walls to complete the sidewall panels.
