- Create the brown felt panels for the gingerbread house by trimming felt appliqués using templates provided or design your own templates.
- Take two standard pieces of 9" x 12" craft felt and trim the 9-inch dimension down to 7-inches.
- Cut out four white felt squares for the windows. There are two windows for each side of the house (figure A).
- Cut out shutters with the template using pinking shears. Cut shutter panels in half so that you have a total of eight shutter panels.
- Sew or glue a small piece of Velcro on each applique back. This will allow the appliqué to stick to the felt fabric when decorating (figure B).
- Decorate the outside of appliqué with additional swatches of felt. Fill in blank areas with puff paint in stripes, dots etc. Set aside and allow it to dry overnight.
- Apply appliqués starting with door and windows:
- Sew hearts onto windows using a straight-line stitch down the center.
- Sew shutters and windows onto the side panel (figure C).
- Complete the look with full "candy" décor:
- Hand-sew the peppermints to the brown felt wall panel.
- Cut candy cane twist to fit the top and bottom window borders and hand sew to the walls to complete the sidewall panels.
