    From "Craft Lab"

Jennifer Perkins and Leah Kramer show how to turn a coffee can into a Santa tree topper. This is a fun project that can be done using things that you’ll likely already have lying around the house.

    Steps:

    1. Place the coffee can on top of a large piece of foil. Fold the foil smoothly up and over the sides of the can (figure A), crinkling it tightly inside the can to secure the foil in place.

    2. Cut feet out of black construction paper and glue to the bottom of the coffee can.

    3. Using a ruler and pencil, measure a 7" x 12" rectangle on red construction paper and cut out the rectangle with scissors.

    4. Curve the paper onto a cone shape and secure with tape. Place the cone over the coffee can with the large end of the cone down to form Santa’s body.

    5. Cut a strip of foil long enough to fit around Santa’s waist.

    6. Glue the strip to the body and create a buckle and glue it on the belt.

    7. Form two 7" x 4" narrow cones from red construction paper for the arms.

    8. Tape the long narrow cones to the sides of Santa’s body to form arms (figure B).

    9. Cut two 2-1/2-inch mitten shapes from white construction paper.

    10. Crush foil around the arms to create foil cuffs and glue mittens to the arms (figure C).

    11. Glue facial features to the plastic foam ball and glue pillow stuffing to shape the beard (figure D).

    12. Stick the sharper end of a chopstick in the bottom of the plastic foam ball.

    13. Spread glue on top of the body cone and rest the plastic foam ball on top, inserting the chopstick in the hole of cone.

    14. Form a narrow 14-inch cone from crepe paper for the hat (figure E), turn up the bottom to form a brim and bend down the pointed end.
