    Figure B

    Materials (figure A):

    Shoebox
    Construction paper
    Scissors
    Fish stickers
    Bamboo skewers
    Card stock
    Scotch tape
    Paint
    Craft knife

    1. Paint the shoebox. Wait to dry and set it on its side.

    2. Decorate the back of the shoebox with 2 layers of wavy blue paper. Also, decorate the foreground with a layer of wavy blue paper.

    3. Add small paper rocks and plants to the bottom of the shoebox.

    4. Place a bamboo skewer down on a piece of heavy paper. Press a fish sticker down onto the skewer and the paper so that the skewer is firmly stuck between the paper and the sticker (figure B). Repeat.

    5. Cut all of your newly stuck fish/frogs out. Cut small rectangles of card stock.

    6. Take 2 and place them in an "X" shape. With your craft knife punch a hole through the middle of the "X" big enough for a skewer to go through. Make more "X"s, enough for all your fish/frog.

    7. Cut 2 slits down the length of the top of the shoebox. They should be wide enough for the skewers to go through.

    8. Push the skewer end of the skewered fish up through the slits.

    9. Push the card "X"s down over the end of the skewers popping up through the box. Tape them into place.

    Tips:

    • You will definitely want to supervise your children in the use of scissors or craft knives.

    • This project doesn't have to be a shoebox aquarium. You could make a shoebox sized puppet theater of any kind. Just find some sticker characters that your children will like and use your creativity!
