    Figure B

    Materials:

    3/4" Baltic birch plywood sheet (34" x 34" square)
4 pieces Baltic birch plywood for apron (4" x 24")
4 pieces Baltic birch plywood for legs (4" x 26")
    4 corner brackets
    Wood screws
    Jigsaw
    Screw gun
    Sandpaper
    Steel wool
    Latex paint
    Brushes
    Wood glue

    1. Have the lumberyard or hardware store cut wood to size.

    2. Use jigsaw to form legs and side drop (apron) of the table (figure A).

    3. Assemble with screws and glue: 2 screws for each corner of the apron and 2 screws for each leg (figure B).

    4. Place corner brackets at the center of each side of the apron. Place the top face down, and the base upside down on it, then screw the top of the brackets.

    5. Sand the table to smooth any rough edges.

    6. Prime with any color you prefer -- paint with your own design.

    7. Allow to dry thoroughly, buff lightly with steel wool, wipe off and varnish.

    Tips:

    • Have children help design the table and the painting design.

    • A dark primer coat gives depth even to lighter colors on top.

    • Allow time for paint and varnish to dry before using.

Products: Available at lumberyard or building-supply stores.
