    Materials:

Soft foam (about 3/4" thick -- like a garden kneeler)
    Craft foam
Compasses (the type used for drawing a circle)
    Scissors
    Paper
    Hot glue
    Permanent markers or paint pens
    Craft sticks

    1. Make a paper template by using a compass to draw a semicircle (figure A) that will fit your foam. Ours is about 12" in diameter. Then draw an INNER semicircle about 2" smaller in diameter. If you need to you can also use plates or bowls to trace circles. Cut out the pattern.

    2. Trace the pattern onto the thick foam and cut it out. Ask an adult to help if the thickness of the foam makes it too hard to cut.

    3. Hot glue the two semicircle pieces of foam together to complete a ring (figure B).

    4. Trace the circle on a piece of craft foam and cut it out.

    5. Place a big bead of hot glue on one side of the ring and glue the craft foam on top.

    6. Measure and cut strips of craft foam to go around the outside edge for trim. Hot-glue them on (figure C) -- use the craft stick to help you glue the trim on so you don't burn your fingers.

    7. Decorate with permanent markers and paint pens

    Tips:

    • NEVER swim or play around a pool without adult supervision.

    • Always have an adult supervise when you use scissors and hot glue.

    • Never throw your water disk in the house.

Products: Available at craft and all-purpose stores nationwide.
