    Materials:

    1-1/2 yds. denim
    1 old bed pillow
    Ultrahold iron-on seam tape -- 5/8" wide
    Scissors
    Ruler
    Pencil
    Hook-and-loop tape
    Acrylic paint
    Brushes
    Iron and ironing board
    1 adult

Note: For a small pillow, measure around the edges. Ours is about 16" x 24".

    1. Add about 2" extra and cut 2 pieces of denim to the dimensions you need.

    2. Measure and cut a strip of hook-and-loop tape 1" shorter than your shortest side. Since we're making the small-size pillow, it will need to be 15".

    3. On the right side of only one piece of the denim, iron on the seam tape along all 4 edges (figure A). On the right side of the second piece of fabric, iron a piece of seam tape on one short end only.

    4. Peel paper backing off the seam tape on the short ends, apply the hook-and-loop tape and iron on the fabric side to secure (figure B). (Don't iron on the tape side because you will melt the plastic tape.) Do this on both pieces of fabric.

    5. Line up the two pieces of fabric, right sides together with the hook-and-loop tape closed. Peel off backing one side at a time and iron seams together (figure C). Repeat for the other two seams.

    6. Open the hook-and-loop tape and turn the pillowcase right side out. Retouch seams if necessary.

    7. Decorate by brushing on designs and let it dry. After you've done that, insert the bed pillow.

    Tips:

    • Always have an adult supervise when you use scissors and an iron.

    • When you wash your pillow, use cold water, and air-dry so that the iron-on seam tape won't melt and cause the whole thing to fall apart!
