    Figure B

    Materials:

    Iron-on patch fabric
Clothes (like jeans) to put your patches on
    Paint pens
    Scissors
    Puffy paint
    Paper
    Pencil
    Iron and ironing board
    Optional: arylic paint and brushes
    One adult

    1. Draw out some test designs on paper, like a symbol, your initials or animals.

    2. Using paint pens, paint your design on the right side of the fabric patch (figure A) and let it dry.

    3. Cut out your design. Set the iron on HIGH. With the help of an adult, iron the patch onto an item like jeans or a shirt. Let the patch cool and test the edges. Reapply heat if needed.

    4. Outline the edges with puffy paint for a more finished look (figure B).

    Tips:

    • Always have an adult supervise when you use scissors.

    • NEVER use an iron without adult supervision.

    • Read all of the patching-fabric instructions before you iron the patches -- including any laundry care instructions. This may affect what type of fabrics you apply your patches to.

    • If you can't find paint pens, you can use acrylic paint for your designs instead.

Products: All products are available at craft, fabric and all-purpose stores nationwide. Patch fabric is usually found with the notions in sewing sections.
