Michael and the DIY kids didn't have time to show you how to make this colorful mobile on-air.

    Materials:

    Craft foam
    Wire -- 22 gauge
    A pencil
    Hole punch
    Heavy-duty thread
    Markers
    Scissors
    White glue
    A compass
    Wire cutters
    Needle nose pliers
    Optional: teacup hook

    1. Measure and cut 2 pieces of wire 12 inches long. Curl each end of the wires into small circles. Tie the two wires together to form an "X".

    2. Measure and cut 4 pieces of wire three inches long. Curl each end of the wire into small circles.

    3. Using craft foam, cut eight circles that are three inches and 16 one and one-half inch circles. Cut one slit in each circle from the outer edge to the middle and fit two circles together for a 3-D effect.

    4. Punch a hole in the top and bottom of the large circles. Tie one to each end of the 12-inch wire.

    5. Bend the 3-inch wire pieces in half for a "V". Insert the wire in the hole in the bottom of the large circle.

    6. Punch a hole in the smaller circles and tie one to each end of the smaller wires.
    Tips:
    • Have an adult supervise when you use scissors, wire, wire cutters, pliers, and a compass because all of these things are sharp and can cut you -- be careful!

    • Everything on our mobile is perfectly balanced because we chose to use the same size shapes for each tier. For fun, try making a mobile with different shapes.

    • We chose to use 22-gauge wire because it is very bendable but sturdy enough for our mobile. It is available in the floral department of most craft stores.

    • If you choose to hang your mobile from a teacup hook -- ask an adult before you screw it into the ceiling!
Products: All products are available at craft, art, and all-purpose stores nationwide.
