    Materials:

    Balloons
    Paper: white, colored or construction
    Poster paper
    Double-sided tape
    Clear tape
    Hole punch
    Pennies
    Scissors
    Permanent markers
    Yarn

    1. Blow up the balloons and tie them off.

    2. To make feet, draw and cut out a heart shape on the poster paper. Near the pointed end of the heart, punch a hole. Insert the balloon neck through the hole and tape it off (figure A). Tape pennies underneath the bottom of the feet for balance so your people will not fall over.

    3. To make the arms, draw and cut them out of paper (figure B). Use double-sided tape to stick them to the sides of the balloon.

    4. To make ears, draw and cut 2 ears out of paper and use double-sided tape to attach them to the sides of the balloon.

    5. Continue on in this manner to make the eyes, nose and mouth if desired.

    6. To make hair, draw hair on or use double-sided tape to attach yarn (figure C).

    7. Decorate features with a marker if you need extra detail (figure D). What about clothes? Draw those on too!
    Tips:
    • Be careful when playing with balloons because they can be a choking hazard.

    • Have an adult supervise when using scissors.

Ms. Farroch told the DIY kids that people in the hospital love to have children visit. Children are happy, have a lot to talk about and the patients like hearing about what the children do in school, etc. Taking them gifts you make really brings some cheer into their lives.
