    Materials:

Plastic foam balls -- 3" diameter
    Poster paper
    Googlie eyes
    Hot glue
    Scissors
    Toothpicks
    Paint
    Brushes
    Pencil
    Markers

    1. Paint the foam balls in fun colors and let them dry. Hint: It is helpful to insert three toothpicks into the balls first so that you have something to hold on to while painting and to give the ball something to rest on while the paint is drying (figure A).

    2. Draw and then cut out creature parts from the poster paper (figure B). Draw the profile view of arms, fins, tentacles, etc. for your sea creatures (you will need two of each of the parts, etc. for each place card holder you are making). We are embellishing the eyes with googlie eyeballs, just for fun! Use a black marker to outline the shapes so that they really stand out.

    3. On the backside, hot glue the toothpicks to the poster paper creature parts leaving at least half of the toothpick exposed (figure C), and put glue on both sides of the toothpick. Then place an identical creature part face down on the glue and smooth out.

    4. Insert toothpicks into the foam ball where your different creature parts need to go (figure D).

    5. Now, add the name of each guest to a ball (figure E).

    Tips:

    • Have an adult supervise when using sharp tools like scissors and toothpicks or a hot glue gun.

    • Let your guests take the decorations home as part of their party favors.

    • Try making your own designs like a cat, dog, or whatever!
Products: All products are available at craft and all-purpose stores nationwide. No special products needed.
