    Materials:

    Wood -- four 1/2" x 2" x 54", three 1/4" x 2" x 22" and two 1/2" x 2" x 24"
    Plywood 24" x 24"
    Wood glue
    Saw and miter box
    Tape measure
2 bolts and 2 wing nuts
    Hammer
    Masking tape
    Nails
    Pencil
    4 washers
    Drill and bits
    Safety glasses
    An adult assistant

    1. Measure and cut the four legs: 1/2" by 2" by 54" (4-1/2'). Measure and cut two boards for paper supports: 1/2" by 2" by 24". Measure and cut three cross supports: 1/4" by 2" by 22".

    2. Match ends and tape two of the legs together. Drill a hole through both legs about one inch from the top edge (figure A). Repeat with the other two legs.

    3. Place a washer on bolt and thread through two legs. Place another washer on threaded bolt and tighten with wing nut (figure B). Repeat for other two legs.

    4. Lay sets of legs on the floor, parallel to each other, 21" apart. Nail the three cross supports to the two INSIDE legs, spacing approximately 3", 13", and 25" from top (figure C).

    5. Carefully flip legs over. Place plywood sheet approximately 3" from top edge of legs (figure D). Nail plywood to the two OUTSIDE legs.

    6. For paper support place a bead of glue on them and tape together to form an L. Nail two paper-support boards together. Nail the paper support to the two OUTSIDE legs, flush with the bottom of the plywood sheet (figure E).

    7. Loosen the nuts and adjust the legs so the easel will stand up, then tighten the bolts again.

    Tips:

    • If legs are too tall, cut to a more appropriate height for you.

    • ALWAYS have an adult supervise, and wear your safety equipment when you are using tools.

    • The plywood sheet, 24" by 24", can be purchased already cut at most hardware stores. Or you can ask them to cut the wood for you -- most hardware stores will do that.

    • For best results use a bolt and wing nut at least 1/2" or larger -- 3/4" works great.

All products can be purchased at hardware and all-purpose stores nationwide. No special products are needed.
