Materials: Rocks (various sizes and shapes) Plastic plates Paint pens Paintbrush Water and towels (for cleanup) Smock Hot-glue gun and glue Pipe cleaners Acrylic paint (various bright colors) Spray shellac Newspaper for table - Wash and dry rocks (figure A). It's important that they be as dry as possible.
- Check out the shape of the rocks. Try matching them up to get some interesting designs. Be creative.
- When you get your idea figured out, hot-glue the rocks together (figure B). Watch out for the glue -- it's hot. If the rocks are big or have odd edges, you may need extra glue to hold them together.
- Finally, decorate with paint and paint pens (figure C). Let paint completely dry and spray with shellac to seal. You can add pipe cleaners for tails, antlers, etc., if needed.
Tips: - Always have an adult supervise when using hot glue.
- The rocks don't have to look exactly like the shape you're making because the paint will help create the illusion of your idea.
- Be neat and always clean up your work area when finished.
Products available at all-purpose and craft stores nationwide.
