    Materials:

    Light-colored T-shirt
    Color photos
    An iron
Color copier (you can use one at your local photocopy store)
    Color-photo transfer paper
    Puffy paint
    Scrap fabric

    1. Arrange a single photo or multiple photos on a sheet of white paper.

    2. Take photos to a local copy store and color-copy them onto transfer paper. Cut the edges off the photo to crop, as you like. Cut off any white border of transfer paper, or it will come out white on your T-shirt.

    3. Now comes the fun part! Lay the transfer face down on the T-shirt. Cover it with a scrap of fabric and iron according to manufacturer's directions with a HOT, DRY iron (figure A). Iron on a hard surface -- not on an ironing board. Check with your parents before using a countertop or other surface when ironing.

    4. Peel back the paper (figure B) and let photo cool. Decorate with puffy paint as desired (figure C).

    Tips:

    • Have an adult supervise when using an iron.

    • Be aware when you purchase your photo paper that they make it for both inkjet and laser copiers. Get the kind that suits your needs best.

    • You can use black-and-white photos with the color paper too.

    • When ironing on transfer, try to heat evenly. You may have to work some areas more that once, but try not to heat more that necessary, or the picture will not be as vibrant. If the paper does not want to come up, just keep heating it and it will eventually come up.

All products can be purchased at craft and all-purpose stores nationwide.
