    Materials:

    8-1/2" x 11" black paper
    Two 1-1/4" screws and bolts
    9" x 12" card stock or cardboard
    Spring clamps
    Drill
    Saw
    Two wood slats, each 9" x 1/4" x 2"
    Photo corners
    Decorative paper
    Brush or sponge brush
    Screwdriver
    Safety glasses
    Gel pens
    Ruler
    Glue
    Scissors
    Pliers

    1. Measure and cut wood slats (figure A) into two 9-inch lengths.

    2. Measure and cut two pieces of card stock 9 inches by 12 inches.

    3. Cover the pieces of card stock with fabric or decorative paper and glue in place. Then cut a smaller piece of paper or fabric and do the same with it. On the larger piece, brush glue on the back and then glue the smaller piece to it (figure B).

    4. Sandwich the black paper between card stock (figure C), centering to make a book.

    5. You can decorate the wooden spines any way you like. Clamp them on the left edge of the book. Drill two holes all the way through the wood slats and paper (figure D), approximately 2-1/2 inches from the top and bottom edge.

    6. Place a nut through the holes and tighten with a bolt to hold your book together.

    7. Now place photos in the book using photo corners (figure E) and write descriptions or funny sayings on the black paper with the gel pens.

    Tips:

    • Always have an adult supervise when you are using tools.

    • You may need an adult to help you hold the slats while you drill the holes through your book.

All products can be purchased at craft, hardware, and all-purpose stores nationwide. No special products are needed.
