    Materials:

    24 colored wooden toothpicks
    White glue
    Aluminum foil
Rubber bands -- two or three bags of small bands, preferably flat-sided
    Thread
    Scissors

    1. Hold two toothpicks side by side and tie them together using thread. Then split them to form an X.

    2. Add a third toothpick in the middle of the X. It should be at a 90-degree angle and create a "star" shape. Wrap thread around the center and tie off (figure A).

    3. Place a drop of glue in the center to help secure the thread (figure B) and let it dry.

    4. Next, cut off the sharp points on all of the toothpicks with scissors (figure C).

    5. For the ball, wad up a piece of aluminum foil into a small ball. Begin wrapping rubber bands around it.

    6. Continue until ball is about 2 inches (figure D) in diameter and bounces well.
    Tips:

    • Have an adult supervise when using scissors and toothpicks or any sharp object.

    • Flat rubber bands will work best -- they won't pop off as easily.

All products can be purchased at craft, grocery and all-purpose stores nationwide. No special products are needed.
