    Materials:

    Wood board 1/2" x 6" x 16"
    Drill with bits
    Paint
    Measuring tape
    Mounting cleats
    Wood glue
    Spring clamps
    Safety glasses
    Hand saw
    Hammer and nails
    Brushes
    Sandpaper
    Masking tape
    Pencil
    Carpenter's square

    1. From a wooden board measure 10" and draw a straight line at that point. On the remaining 6" of the board, draw a diagonal line to divide it into two equal triangles (figure A).

    2. Clamp the board to a worktable and saw the diagonal line first. Then saw the straight line (figure B). The triangles are the supports and the 10" piece is your shelf.

    3. For one support, measure 5" in from the end of the shelf and draw a line. For two supports, you need to measure in about 2" from each end of the shelf and draw a line at each mark.

    4. With a small bit, drill two holes on each line of the shelf, about 2" apart (figure C).

    5. Place a bead of glue on the triangle support. Center the triangle support over your drawn line so that the drilled holes will be in the middle of the support. Secure in place with masking tape (figure D)until you can nail them together.

    6. Nail the shelf to the support at the predrilled holes. You may need someone to help hold the boards while you nail them together (figure E).

    7. Remove the masking tape. Sand the rough spots.

    8. Paint or stain the shelf as desired.

    9. Add two mounting cleats or hangers according to manufacturer's instructions and hang on your wall.

    Tips:

    • Always have an adult supervise anytime you use tools.

    • Ask permission before hanging shelf on the wall.

Products are available at craft and hardware stores nationwide. No special products are needed.
