A personalized place mat provides a fun keepsake for kids, as well as breakfast activities.

Q: What are some fun breakfast ideas I can make for my 7-year-old daughter's sleepover guests?

A: (Jeanne Benedict, Entertaining Expert) Here are some neat ideas: a waffle station with a variety of toppings, dippable fruit pops and fun, festive place mats!

    Waffle Bar

Here are a few things to stock:

    • Waffles
    • Flavored syrups
    • Fresh whipped cream
    • Pumpkin pie filling
    • Berries
    • Chocolate Chips

    Fruit Pops

    Ingredients:

    Long lollipop sticks
    Cubed fruit
    Peanut butter
    Honey
    Yogurt (flavored or plain
    Coconut
    Candy sprinkles

    1. Slide cubed fruit onto sticks.

    2. Create a dip from 1/3 cup smooth peanut butter mixed with 1/4 cup of honey. (More honey can be added to taste or for thinner consistency and the mixture can be heated in microwave for easier mixing and blending).

    3. Have kids dip fruit pops into peanut butter-honey dip, then roll in candy sprinkles; alternately, dip in yogurt, then shredded coconut.

    Custom Keepsake Place Mat

    Materials:

    Brightly colored place mat
    Colorful patterned and solid papers
    Decorative-edge scissors
    Glue stick
    Assorted markers
    Ribbon
    Plastic photo sleeve

    1. To decorate one side of the place mat, first cut two small cards from colored papers. Cut one card larger than the other, but still small enough slide into the photo sleeve while leaving room for the ribbon that will be laced through the top of the sleeve.

    2. Layer cards together and decorate as desired. Write a fun activity for each child to complete on the front of the smaller card (in this example, "Wake Mom Nicely").

    3. Cut small holes into the place mat and lace ribbon from back to front. Secure photo sleeve to place mat and add activity card to sleeve

    4. To opposite side of the front of place mat, glue felt pocket into place. Allow kids to decorate and add treasures as desired.

    More Viewer Questions. . .

Q: What type of decorations can I use next to or around hot chafing dishes?

A: Avoid baskets or drier items like Spanish moss. Greenery can be used around 8" away.

Q: Do you have any tips for keeping seafood trays really cold on a buffet table?

A: You could rent a seafood tray, or you can build an ice pyramid -- beautiful and functional.
