    Ingredients:

    Jumbo marshmallows
    Chocolate candy bar
    Graham crackers
    Microwave or campfire
    Plate
    Coat hanger

    Preparation for campfire method:

    1. Straighten one coat hanger.

    2. Break graham crackers and chocolate bar into squares.

    3. Place a large marshmallow on the end of the coat hanger.

    4. Roast marshmallow over an open campfire flame, turning until all sides are nice and brown (figure A). Marshmallow may try to slide off the coat hanger as it heats.

    5. Sandwich chocolate and hot marshmallow between two graham crackers (figure B).

    Preparation for microwave method:

    1. Stack on a microwave-safe plate one graham-cracker square, one chocolate square, one jumbo marshmallow.

    2. Microwave on high for 30-seconds intervals, until marshmallow is melted and chocolate is soft.

    3. Top with another graham-cracker square and enjoy!

    Tips:

    • An adult should always supervise when there is an open fire or electric equipment being used.

    • If you have a gas stove, ask an adult if you can try roasting your marshmallow over a lit burner. Always have adult supervision -- never try this alone!

All products can be purchased at grocery stores nationwide. No special products are needed.

Camping Safety Tips from Marek Smith:

    • When building a fire, first make a circle with rocks on nice bare ground (figure C). This will keep fire inside and prevent it from jumping out and catching something else on fire.

    • When camping in the backyard, make sure you always have a fire extinguisher handy in case something goes wrong. If you do not have a fire extinguisher handy, you can use the garden hose or a bucket of water.

    • Gather twigs, small pieces of bark and small logs for the fire. Light the fire from the bottom.
