    Before you untie your boat from the dock, it's a good idea to check out your boat. The last thing you want is to be untied from the dock and your motor not start.

    Do the following before un-docking the boat:

    • Start the engine, uncover and let the blower run (figure A), so the air in the bilge pump can be cleared out of fumes.

    • Next, shift the gear into forward, neutral and reverse. This is to make sure the engine is working properly.

    • The last thing to check before you untie the boat is to look at which direction the current is going. Now you are ready to untie.

    Release the line that is down current first. Then release the up current line. Push off and engage into forward gear.
