Once all the positive leads are hooked up to the backside of the battery switch, it's time to apply liquid electrical tape (figure A) to the connections to protect them from water, salt and any corrosive elements. Note: Allow from 15 to 20 minutes for the liquid tape to dry. Mounting the Battery Switch - Drill pilot holes where you want the battery switch to go.
- Prior to inserting the screws, switch the bit on the drill to a countersinking bit in order to bevel the topside of the holes to prevent spider cracks in the fiberglass.
- Be sure to seal the screws with marine-grade silicone. This will protect the screw from water and salt or anything that can start the corrosion process.
- Screw down the battery switch (figure B).
- Get inside the center console of the boat and hookup the final battery leads. For this particular project, the wing nuts that came with the batteries were "not" used. Instead, nyloc nuts were used to keep the possibility of a wing nut vibrating "off" the connection from ever happening.
Check to see if you actually have power and you're set!
