Host John Greviskis offers tips on selecting trim tabs for your boat. The first rule of thumb is to select the largest trim tab possible for your boat. Take in consideration how much surface area is available on the transom (figure A). You also have the option of controlling the trim tabs by using a hydraulic or electric switch. Manual trim tabs are also available. Trim tabs need to be as far away from the outboard as possible, avoiding the reverse chine (figure B). Also consider where the actuator will be placed to make sure there is nothing in the way. Take a look at what is on the inside of the boat to ensure the installation will not interfere with anything.
