How to Install Shower Walls and a Niche

Step 1: Prepare the Shower Walls
With a circular saw, cut the cement board to size (Image 1).
Use a hole saw to make cuts in the boards for the plumbing (Image 2).
Step 2: Screw the Cement Boards Into the Wall
Drill the boards to the wall with porcelain-lined cement screws (Image I). If the screw won’t go in, pound the screws with a hammer to knock them into place and then continue screwing. Make sure the screw head goes below the surface of the board.
Step 3: Measure for the Niche
Determine the height of the niche and mark.
Transfer the measurements to the cement board.
Step 4: Install the Niche
With a circular saw, make a plunge cut along the cut line and carefully make the cut-out.
Apply construction adhesive to the back of the niche and press into place.
