With a circular saw, cut the cement board to size (Image 1).
Use a hole saw to make cuts in the boards for the plumbing (Image 2).
Drill the boards to the wall with porcelain-lined cement screws (Image I). If the screw won’t go in, pound the screws with a hammer to knock them into place and then continue screwing. Make sure the screw head goes below the surface of the board.
Determine the height of the niche and mark.
Transfer the measurements to the cement board.
