  • Quick Tip: Replacing a Toilet Seat
  • From "Ask DIY"
    episode ADI-309
    advertisement

If your toilet seat is broken or worn out (or if you just want a new one), follow these super-easy tips from repair expert Brad Staggs.

    1. Look at the back of the seat for two small hinged covers, which cover the plastic bolts that hold the seat in place.

    2. Holding the top of each bolt in place with your fingers, reach underneath and remove nut on bottom by unscrewing it.

    3. Lift off the lid.

    4. Reversing the steps, replace the seat with the new one and reattach the bolts to secure it.

Note: When you're buying a new toilet seat, be sure to get one that matches contours of the old one. Otherwise, you can have some big headaches when you go to replace it!
