    Figure D

Artist Rosemary Watson tells Kitty Bartholomew, host of HGTV's Ask Kitty Bartholomew , how to turn a shower curtain into a piece of art. All you need is an inexpensive plastic shower curtain, a favorite piece of art and acrylic paints.

    Materials:

    Clear-plastic shower curtain or liner
Image to copy (an art poster works well)
    Paint pens
    Acrylic paints and brushes
    Piece of white paper
    Masking tape
    Clean rags

    1. Wipe a new shower curtain with water to remove any powdery residue, and let it dry completely.
    2. Lay the shower curtain face down, and center your poster or other work of art face down on top of it. Tape two corners of the poster to the shower curtain, hold the taped edges down with books, pull the shower curtain taut under the poster, and tape down the other two corners.
    3. Turn the shower curtain right side up so you can see the image. Apply a border of masking tape to enclose the section of the poster you'll be tracing (figure A).
    4. Use a paint pen to trace the outlines of the image (figure B).
    5. Apply broad areas of color with brushed-on acrylic paint (figure C)). As you paint, slip a piece of white paper between poster and plastic to get an idea of how the painted surface looks (figure D). Paint pens cover quite evenly, but you may need a couple of layers of acrylic to get full coverage.
    6. Copy the entire image, remove the poster, and hang the shower curtain.
    Design Ideas

Alter the artist's image and add personality by choosing your own colors when reproducing an art poster, or paint your monogram on a shower curtain with initials enlarged on a copy machine.
