Needlecraft enthusiasts will love Uncommon Threads, DIY Network’s new half-hour daily series, which premieres Monday, July 3 at 10:30am ET. Uncommon Threads host Allison Whitlock and different needle arts groups and clubs from around the country show viewers the latest trends in needlecrafts."This series is meant to show viewers that needlework is not just for grandmothers any more," says Karen Daniel, director of programming for DIY. "It brings a new, hip twist to crafts like quilting, patchwork and crocheting."
Uncommon Threads sheds a modern light on the ancient art of needlecrafts, including appliqué, crochet, embroidery, patchwork, quilting and rug making. In each episode, Whitlock and her guests discuss ideas, specialties, techniques and creations. Viewers will learn how to make one or more awesome projects by the end of every episode. There are projects for everyone including, "Crochet Nation" demonstrating how to crochet a ribbon bedroom set, Hip to Stitch author Melinda Barta and friends making an embroidered escape map for you home, and members of PDV Super Craft creating an appliqué denim sewing tote.
Australian-born crafter, creator, and design diva Allison Whitlock has been dabbling in all things needle since the ripe age of four, when she first became mesmerized by the click-clack of metallic knitting needles. Taught by her relatives, friends, neighbors, teachers, she has since become a deft hand at several of the fiber arts including crochet, embroidery, cross-stitch, quilting, and sewing. Now, she combines her passion for contemporary design and her fondness for fiber arts in Uncommon Threads.
