Michael Ray Wisely's father taught him arc welding at the age of nine. He went on to work beside his father for several years in a metal design and fabrication business. There, he learned many aspects of working with metal and wood, as well as design concepts. Following college and after a stint in the Air Force, where he studied electronics, Michael Ray spent several years as a lighting technician/carpenter and later, as master carpenter for the Chabot Performing Arts Center in Hayward, CA, where he built elaborate sets for the award-winning Summer Musical series. During this time, he continued to challenge his woodworking skills by restoring two classic wooden boats. Over ten years experience with all aspects of maintenance and care of wooden boats gave Michael Ray a unique perspective on preservation and restoration techniques, as well as fine woodworking.
Michael Ray's knowledge of woodworking and renovation comes from a can-do spirit instilled in him by his father, as well as from the mentoring of many craftsmen with whom he's worked over the years. Because of the generosity of others, he now looks forward to passing on this knowledge in the same spirit.
In addition to his craftsman work, Michael Ray is a professional actor with 15 years experience in stage, television and film, and a devoted husband and father.
Michael Ray makes dreams come true on DIY Network's Home Transformations.
