Tools have always been the mainstay in David Thiel's life. At 14, he began his career pushing a broom in his father's custom woodworking shop. David advanced his skills to the point of building custom furniture for homes and businesses during high school and college, where he received a degree in English literature and journalism. Later, he worked in public relations for a number of nonprofit health agencies but was destined to go back to his roots, so he opened up a woodworking company in his home state of Ohio. After a few years of building custom pieces for his customers, David found an opportunity where he could combine his college education with his passion for woodworking. He answered an ad for an editorial position at Popular Woodworking magazine, where he's now worked for more than a decade. One of his favorite aspects of the job: to review tools for the magazine, which gives him a chance to test the best and latest tools on the market as well as compare an entire class of tools at one time.
David is writing his first book, which will be offered by F+W Publications under the Popular Woodworking imprint and should be out in 2006. He has contributed to many compilations books under the Popular Woodworking imprint, such as Authentic Arts & Crafts Furniture Projects, Popular Woodworking Complete Book of Tips, Tricks &Techniques, The World's Best Storage & Shelving Projects and 25 Essential Projects for Your Workshop.
And these are just a few of the reasons David's the perfect host for DIY Tools & Techniques on DIY Network!
