Michigan native, Cheri Van Bynen, is from a family of "d-i-yers", where the motto is "if you want something done right, do it yourself." That way it's cheaper, more convenient, self satisfying, and of course, a new project is a good excuse to buy more tools! Van Bynen has owned her own business since 1989, doing everything from commissioned artwork to behind-the-scenes work on television shows and commercials. She enjoys sharing her knowledge, so that others don't have to learn the hard way. She has taught art classes in elementary schools, classes at an arts & crafts store, and has been a Girl Scout leader for 10 years.
Van Bynen attended the University of Michigan, the University of Central Florida, the University of Tennessee and Specs Howard school of broadcast arts. Combining her media background with her handyman philosophy, she has been a guest on several "how to" shows but most enjoys being the host. When she's not fixing, painting or teaching something, she loves to travel, write and hang out in her workshop.
