Susan Khalje received her professional sewing training at the New York couture salon Chez Cez et Bez. She also worked as a fashion designer and manufacturing supervisor for Isis, the ladies' sportswear firm, on Seventh Avenue in New York City. Over the past 20 years, she has concentrated on couture sewing, and in the process developed an appreciative clientele for her one-of-a-kind wedding gowns and evening wear.

An exceptional teacher, Susan established the Couture Sewing School in 1993 and has also taught couture sewing techniques throughout the country. In addition to her teaching, Susan regularly takes groups of sewing enthusiasts to Paris for an insider's view of the world of couture. She has served as the national chairperson of the Professional Association of Custom Clothiers (of which she is a charter member).

Susan has contributed to Sew News and Vogue Patterns Magazine and writes frequently for Threads magazine. She has been featured in More® Magazine's book Fifty Celebrate Fifty, and she has contributed to The Expert's Guide to 100 Things Everyone Should Know How to Do. Her other books include Bridal Couture: Fine Sewing Techniques for Wedding Gowns and Evening Wear and Linen and Cotton: Classic Sewing Techniques for Great Results. She also writes a weekly national sewing column, "Sew Much More," and is currently developing a line of couture bridal patterns.
