James Young, a licensed electrician, has worked in this field for more than 17 years. He began his career in the U.S. Army as an electronic technician and, after completing his tour of duty, graduated from a five-year electrical-apprenticeship school in residential, commercial and industrial wiring. Over the years he has wired everything from single-family homes to hotels and sports arenas. In 1996 Young made his TV debut as the electrical host on the Discovery Network's Gimme Shelter. He was also the electrical host on HGTV 's award-winning show The Fix and has made guest appearances on that network's TIPical Mary Ellen.
