  • Ladder-Mount Bike Rack and Bike Tips
  • Learn how to attach a bike rack to your RV.
    From "RV Roadtrips"
    episode DRVR-104

Host Gary Bunzer instructs the Fendt family on how to install a ladder-mount bike rack, and then he covers bike safety.

A couple of the tips include checking the saddle and handle bars and inspecting the tires and brakes.

Once the mount has been installed, the Fendt family places the bike on the rack using Velcro® and bungee cords to secure them.

    Materials:

    Velcro® ties
    bungee cords

    Tool:

    screwdriver

    1. Install the bike rack (figure A) per the manual instructions.

    2. Check the bike for safety by making sure the "minimum insertion" lines are not exposed--but locked in.

    3. Do a thorough tire inspection and make sure the tires are inflated properly.

    4. Do a brake inspection by squeezing the brake levers, and if the level touches the handle bar the brakes need to be adjusted.

Inspect the brake pads and make sure they make contact with the rim (figure B)--and not the tires or spokes. Make sure the brake pad "wear indicators" (the small cutouts on the brake pads) are still visible. If they aren't the pads have worn down and it's time to change them.

    5. Place bike or bikes on the rack and secure with Velcro ties and the bungee cords (figure C).
