    From "RV Roadtrips"
    episode DRVR-104

RV holding tank maintenance is the first topic that host Gary Bunzer discusses with the Fendt family before they hit the road to Lake George in upstate New York.

Gary covers all the necessary steps, including the lubrication of the termination valves and the use of RM Tank Care to clean the tanks themselves.

    Maintaining RV Holding Tanks

    1. Start with empty holding tanks.

    2. Remove and disassemble the termination valves.

    3. Use diluted water and liquid detergent to clean the valve with a scrub brush (figure A).

    4. Lubricate the valve with white lithium grease. Apply to both sides and then open the valve to make sure it has been completely covered.

    5. Apply the grease to the new seals you will apply to the valve
It is important to replace the seals (figure B) whenever you are taking the valve apart.

    6. Reassemble termination valves.

    7. Add RM Tank Care--an enzyme based treatment--to each tank (gray and black water) to eliminate odor.

    8. For black water two scoops go in the toilet. Add water to cover the bottom of the tanks.

    9. For gray water add 1/2 scoop down the shower and 1/2 scoop down the kitchen sink. Then flush with water.

    10. Flush a bag of ice down the toilet (figure C) to loosen any additional residue that has collected on the tank's sensors.

    11. Tanks agitate in route and loosen any debris.

    12. Dump tanks upon arrival.
