When your hitch is not on towing duty, you have the option of dressing it up.Choose from a variety of decorative accessories that fit right into the hitch-receiver and allow you to add a little color to your vehicle's posterior without appl

Hitch accessories and after-market options allow you to enhance the versatility of your hitch or simply add a customized look.

Since some trailers hitch to a two-inch ball-mount while others utilize a larger mount, a draw-bar with two different-sized ball-mounts (figure A) allows you to adapt your hitch to either type without having to carry two separate draw bars. The draw bar is fastened in the receiver using a metal pin and safety clip.

A Stor-A-Hitch carries an interchangeable second draw-bar on the underside of the hitch (figure B) so you always have more than one option to choose from. Hitch adapters include varying sized ball-mounts, a towing hook, etc.

Another option is a step allowing you easier access to a roof-rack in much the same way that a running-board does. The step attaches to the hitch receiver and is then held in place by the draw bar (figure C). The whole assembly is held secure with a metal pin and safety clip (figure D). An added benefit of the step is that you may also use it to access the top of the boat or trailer that you're towing.

Luggage-carrier attachments are available for some hitches that will increase your cargo-carrying capacity. If you use a carrier like this one, be certain to tie your cargo down securely. A similar accessory provides a removable and very sturdy bike rack (figure E). One advantage of a hitch-mounted bike rack is that you don't lose the use of your car's trunk while you're transporting your bikes.

If you want to have a little fun with your hitch when it's not in use, a number of purely decorative accessories are available. These simply slide into the receiver and attach like a draw bar.

For the safety-conscious, an additional brake light can be mounted in the receiver (figure F). It plugs directly into the wire harness for your vehicle's rear lights.
