If your power steering pump is whining, it will need to be replaced. If you are losing fluid, you need to inspect the hoses.

If your car pulls to one side when you are changing lanes, you may want to check your rack. The rack has teeth (figure A) that can wear out over time. Every time you turn your steering wheel, the rack is moving in and out and it takes a lot of wear and tear and can cause the teeth of the rack to wear out. Also, the piston inside the rack can wear out. At your local parts store, you can purchase a whole new rack assembly and install it yourself. It is recommended that you purchase new hoses at the same time and replace them.
