A viewer said that when he brakes from a moderate speed down to stopping, there is a loud "snap" sound from the direction of the front wheels of his truck.- Commonly in trucks that have a lot of mileage, bushings are overlooked (figure A). The bushings at this shock are worn and cracked and can cause the shock to bottom out. Also, when the springs are in a perch, there is a rubber bushing at the bottom where the perch sits and it could be worn and cause the springs to pop out of the perch.

- On a truck, you have all the load on the ball joints (figure B) and it can wear out, and the boot over the ball joint can rip and fill up with grease.
- Also, check out the tie rod ends (figure C) because they can be cracked and pick up dirt and debris from the roadway that would cause it not to function properly.
- Check out the bearings to see if they are worn.
- Check the movement of your brake caliper and if it has movement on it, you may have a hardware bolt that is loose.
- Finally, there are two locations on each side of your truck for the sway bar mounts (figure D). There is one bolt on each side and if a bolt snaps because the bushings are worn through, the bracket will slap up against the frame.
