Tips:

• Did you know? Air brakes on a tractor-trailer were originally developed by George Westinghouse in the 1800s to help stop trains more efficiently.

• A slow and steady drain to your car's battery could be an electrical short. To test for this, charge your battery and disconnect the negative cable. Remove the clock and radio fuses and attach a 12-volt test light between the negative battery cable and the battery's post. If the light glows, electricity is being drawn from the battery. To isolate the problem circuit, remove the remaining fuses one at a time until the light goes out.

• A solution of three parts baking soda to one part water, applied with a damp cloth or brush, will remove corrosion from battery cables and posts.
