    Phase 4: Fabricate and Install Drag Blocks

    To add a little flair to his project, Andrew installs drag blocks on the car. He fabricates the blocks out of metal and mounts them under the back of the car.

    Materials/Tools:

    square steel stock
    grinder
    standard shop tools

    Steps:

    • Go underneath the car and measure from the rear sub-frame to the bottom of the rear spoiler. Add some allowance. This provides the dimensions for the drop-down bracket that will save the rear spoiler from getting mangled on the street.

    • Cut off a short section of square steel stock to build up the length of the drop bracket.

    • Use a grinder to bevel and clean up the edges and ready it for welding.

    • Use one of the tow-hook brackets that were removed earlier to mark the mounting holes in the angle iron. This will allow the drag blocks to bolt right up to the car.
      After drilling out the mounting holes, weld the pieces together, and then flip it over and add another small piece of square stock to the bottom, which is where the actual block is bolted on.

    • Under the back of the car, use the original tow-hook bolts to mount the drag blocks.
