Steering Rack RemovalAt this point you'll need to disconnect the rack-and-pinion from the suspension.
- Important: Before disconnecting the rack, you must first center the steering wheel to make sure both of the wheels are pointed forward (figure B). Failing to do so could result in damage to the clock spring.
- The tie rod arms are re-inserted into the steering arms and the wheels are centered.
- Note: On some vehicles, the steering system may be located behind the cross member and is more difficult to access. You may even have to raise the engine some to gain access to work on it.
- Use a wrench to disconnect the power steering fluid lines (figure C) and let the fluid drain out.
