- If you change your wires and spark plugs, and you have cylinders not firing or misfiring, there are several things you can check. Some manifolds actually have the firing order number embossed right on the manifold (figure A).
- Recheck your service manual if the numbers are not on the manifold. Sometimes there are different models within an engine (i.e. a sport model may have a different firing order because it has a different engine).
- You could have a whole spark plug set just one off on the distributor. Some distributors have a number 1 on them (figure B) that helps you know where to start.
- When you get your spark plug wires, there are different sets, plus different lengths. Make sure you get the right length. Also, be sure you push down on all the spark plugs to make sure they are seated on distributor properly.
