  • Automotive Quick-Tip: Back-Up Alarm and Lights

Most commercial vehicles are designed with audible warning signals and lights that make them safer when the vehicle is moving in reverse. Similar capabilities can be added to your passenger vehicle if you wish.

    • Passenger cars typically have back-up lights that indicate when the vehicle goes into reverse, but the lights serve primarily as a warning and are not bright enough to clearly illuminate the path behind them. To solve that problem, consider adding halogen bulbs to make your car's reverse lights brighter.

    • For added safety, install a combination light and back-up alarm. These are especially useful if you have children, or if there are a lot of children in your neighborhood. The audible alarm alerts the children that the car is backing up. This safety enhancement can be purchased as a kit at most auto-parts stores. They are easily installed. Simply remove the old back-up light bulb and install the combination light / alarm in its place.
