Honda S2000: Wiring the Controls for the Spoiler and Canards Honda Aerodynamics Upgrade: Part 4 of 4 From "Tricked Out" episode DTRK-307

In this project Tricked Out host Andrew Totolos installs a rear-deck spoiler and front-bumper canards to improve the racing aerodynamics on a Honda S2000. In this final phase of the project, Andrew completes the modification by wiring the system for the newly installed spoiler and canards. As an added bonus, the new components will respond to the touch of a button once Andrew installs the remote control activation system.

Steps:

• The control box for the canards mounts in the engine bay. In the S2000, there’s an ideal spot near the driver’s side fender. Mark the position where the screws will go (figure A), then punch out a starting hole.

• Next, drive in a self-tapping screw, and then back it out. Put the box into place and replace the screw to secure it tightly.

• The kit comes with a wiring harness to simplify things. Plug it into the control box (figure B) and put the wires in split loom.

• Separate the wires that run to the individual canards and start a new piece of split loom at this junction. Leave the red power wire and the black ground wire out of the loom. Pull the red wire out all the way down to the control box, and then run one of the canard leads forward in the engine bay. Drop one set of wires down and behind the driver’s side headlight and pull it down into the fender well.

• For the passenger-side canard, run those wires along the front body brace first and then drop them down behind the passenger-side light. Secure the wires through the engine with wire ties.

• Next, bring the bumper support and the bumper back in. Pull the wiring through the fender well and plug the harness into the canards. Tape the connections and the pop the bumper in place temporarily (figure C).

• Gather the excess wires, and secure them out of the way.

• Make sure all your electronics work properly before putting everything back together.

• Now that the canards are temporarily mounted in place, you can work on wiring them into the car.

• Once they’re installed, they'll be activated by pushing a button on the remote control (figure D). In order for that to work, a wireless receiver must be installed up under the dash.
