    Rear Bumper Installation

A new front bumper-cover and side skirts were installed on the Integra in previous segments. The next item on the agenda is the rear bumper. The prep-work and overall installation is essentially the same. He's the procedure:

    • First, lift the trunk-lid and pop out the clips that secure the back panel over the taillights.

    • With the panel gently pulled back (figure A), unbolt the taillights (figure B).

    • With the taillights unbolted, carefully remove them from behind the panel and disconnect the wire harness (figure C).

    • Remove bolts in each rear wheel-well (figure D).

    • Remove screws inside and underneath bumper, and carefully lift off the factory bumper.

    • With the factory bumper off, remove old styrofoam bumper pads from car (figure E).

    • Important: As with the front bumper that was installed earlier, this aftermarket bumper does not come with bolt holes pre-drilled. You'll need to make sure new holes are aligned for installation and drill them yourself. Use a cordless drill or rotary tool to drill out the holes in the polyurethane. Again, the new holes should be drilled before placement of the new bumper, and prior to the bumper being painted.

    • With the holes properly aligned and drilled, lift the bumper into position (figure F) and secure it with the factory-supplied bolts and screws.

    • Reinstall the taillights and trim piece.

In the segment that follows, the Integra gets a carbon-poly hood that's much lighter than the stock hood and vented to help keep things cool underneath.

Important: Included in this segment are the steps in this automotive procedure as shown in the episode. These steps are general guidelines that are applicable to most vehicles. With any particular vehicle, there may be procedures, specifications, settings, tolerances, components, etc. that are specific to that vehicle. There are also variations according to the type and brand of repair-kit you select. Always consult your vehicle's service manual when undertaking significant automotive repairs, and read and follow the manufacturer's directions and precautions that come with your kit or replacement parts.

Answer to Tricked Out Trivia Question:
The 1968 Pontiac GTO was the first car to offer polyurethane bumper covers. The bumpers were introduced in a memorable television campaign with an ad featuring John DeLorean attacking a GTO bumper with a sledge hammer.
