Jeep Wranglers have been around for quite a while, and over the years an almost cultlike following of enthusiasts has evolved. As you might expect, an abundance of after-market accessories have become available for these popular go-anywhere vehicles -- most of which do add a measure of functionality to the already hard-working off-roader.

When you take your vehicle into rugged terrain, some of the parts that are the most susceptible to damage or breakage are the headlight and taillight covers. Installing stone guards to protect the headlights is an easy solution, as is the addition of protective grills for your taillights (figure A) and turn-signals. Kits are available that include guards for all light-covers on the vehicle. The parts are available in various finishes including chrome, black or a powder-coated black that is particularly resistant to rust (figure B). Some Jeep owners opt to have theirs custom painted to match the paint of their vehicle.

The headlight protectors install so that they are flush with the front of the headlight well. These are simple to install since they are held in place with three brackets that attach inside the well using the factory screws. The only things you'll require are the parts themselves and a screwdriver.

    1. Remove the factory screws inside the light well.

    2. Hold the light in place since it may be rather loose once the screws are out.

    3. Install the guard using the factory screws, but don't tighten them down until they are all in place.

    4. Once all screws are in place, go back and tighten each of them.

Installation of tail-light and turn-signal protectors is just as simple, as these are also held on by factory screws (figure C).
