Mounting the Underbody LED TubesMaterials/tools used in the first phase of this project: LED underbody kit 12-volt power supply for checking LED tubes tape marker jack stands or lift shop tools self-tapping screws drill wire ties Steps: - Hook up lights to 12-volt power supply to make sure everything works, and assure that everything is flowing in the right direction (figures A and B).
To avoid confusion when installing the components, use tape and a marker to label the ends of the tubes with their mounting locations (figure C).The wheel well lights are marked "front" and "rear" from the manufacturer, but you'll still need to know which direction to mount them, so label them too (figure D). For the front and rear tubes know which side goes to the passenger or the driver's side. After all the tubes are marked and checked out you can mount them to the car.Lift the car on a lift or jack stands. Important: Be sure not to cover any jack points under the car (figure E). If they're covered, you'll crack your LEDs the first time you lift the car after they're installed.
When installing the LED tubes, start up front and work your way around the car. The front tube gets mounted onto the body kit. First, hold the tube up to the car with the mounting clamps in place, center it and mark the hole locations (figure F).

Use self-tapping screws to pre-drill the holes, and add speed clips to the clamp that comes with the kit. Place the clip over the screw, and then drive the screw completely through (figure G). Do the same for the other two clamps. The wire going to the wheel well needs to be secured for daily driving. Again, use speed clips with wire ties to lock it down.Start by drilling holes with self-tapping screws into the kit in two locations leading to the wheel wells. Then use pliers to add the speed clip and wire tie, and secure it to the screw (figure H).Run the wires through to the wheels. Be sure to leave enough excess wire to plug into the wheel well lights that get installed and tightened down later. The tube at the passenger side will attach to the body of the car. Position the tube away from the jack points, and mark the spots where it will mount (figure I).Pre-drill the holes for the screws. Attach the clamps, and secure the tube in all three spots (figures J and K).
Finish up the passenger side tube by tucking the wires out of the way to be secured later.
In the rear well, make sure that you're not drilling into anything important. For the wires, make sure to keep them away from moving parts and from anything that gets really hot. For good measure, wrap the wires in a product that will protect them from extreme heat. Wrap the protective tube around the wire and secure the ends using electrical tape (figure L).After the protective tubing is secure, feed the wire loom over the heat shield to the wheel well.Next, wire-tie all the wires going to the wheel wells using existing holes in the chassis when possible. The driver's side tube gets installed the same way as the passenger's, using three screws to secure the tube to the body of the car. After the tube is secure, tuck the excess wiring out of the way into the body kit. Remove the car from the lift to prepare for work on the wheel well lights.
