New header, installed

Install New Performance Header

With the factory radiator and factory exhaust manifold removed, it's now time to install the new performance header.

Materials/Tools:

wrench, oxygen-sensor socket
electrical tape
aluminum stock
wire ties
utility knife
hacksaw and file
drill and step-bit
*template for custom CRX brackets (if working on CRX)

Steps:

• Remove the old exhaust manifold gasket, clean the mating surface and carefully press the new header gasket into place over the exhaust studs. A tight seal is vital, so take your time making sure the gasket is flush.

• Once it's flush you can slide the new header on and start the locking nuts.

• Tighten the header nuts working from the center out and then torque them down to 61-foot pounds in the same tightening pattern.

• After the header is mounted screw in the upper oxygen sensor and then tighten it up with a special oxygen-sensor socket and plug it in.

• You'll have to make a short spade connector extension wire to connect between the new sensor location and the original plug. Since the second sensor mounts closer to the cap in the new setup just drop the wire down near the back of the engine to connect later from underneath.

• Under the car, slide the downpipe onto the studs near the oil pan and start the nuts to hold the pipe in place (figure G).

• Then insert the gasket and the three bolts with locking nuts at the downpipe-to-header connection.

• Cut the wire tie loose, and use the two supplied bolts to connect the downpipe to the flange at the catalytic converter. Once all the nuts are started, go back and torque everything down to the manufacturer's specifications.

• Start at the header-to-downpipe connection then move to the downpipe-to-catalytic converter flange and finish by tightening the oil pan bracket nuts.

• Once everything is tightened up, screw the lower oxygen sensor into the bung near the catalytic converter (figure H) and plug it into the spade connecter extension lead.

• Wrap the connection tightly to seal it from the elements, and wire-tie it up a safe distance from the heat of the exhaust system.

• Once you get the header locked in you can mount the fan to the new radiator.
